Wild TorWild Tor lies within the centre of North Dartmoor. Although not the highest nor the most commanding of tors it is nonetheless impressive and the views on a clear day are excellent. Getting to Wild Tor takes you right into the moor along well established tracks for the most part.Park offroad (SX 659910) near Throwleigh and head up the Blackaton Gorge passing Shilley pool on the way. At the top of the gorge make for the 3 track stone row at the foot of Cosdon Hill. Take the old peat path that skirts Cosdon towards Hound Tor. It passes the west side of Raybarrow pool. You get to a stone circle and the path to Hound Tor and Wild Tor is obvious. Descend the clittery slope of Wild Tor and make for Galleven Ford. From here a track skirts around Kennon Hill and ends up on Throwleigh common. This is a reasonable walk with a couple of gentle climbs, some wet ground and a fair distance to cover. Good tracks for most of the way although around Galleven Mire you may need to use a compass to get you to the ford. Allow 4 - 5 hours. We did this walk in drizzly, misty weather and navigation was pretty important.Wild Tor lies within the military range.
